چکیده

Abstract—Multi-path transferring provides higher available bandwidth for a session. It also has the ability to provide load balancing and error resilience for end-to-end multiple paths. One major problem of multi-path transferring scheme is that utilizing different paths with diverse delays causes reordering among packets of the same session. Unfortunately, in the case of TCP-like, the reordering intensifies the problem by bringing more timeouts and so unnecessary retransmission which eventually degrades the throughput of connections considerably. To address this issue, we first presented the fragmentation conditions that should be held to avoid retransmission timeouts due to reordering. Then, we enhanced our approach by preventing unnecessary fast retransmission/recovery events in TCP or SCTP. We introduced an analytical framework for the optimal fragmentation strategy of real-time traffic that decreases the probability of triggering 3 or 4 duplicate ACK. Specifically, it formulates optimal traffic fragmentation as a constrained optimization problem using deterministic network calculus and derives its closed-form solution by our proposed progressive water-filling algorithm. Compared with previous work, the proposed scheme is simpler to implement and enforce. Analytical results show that a set of paths can achieve the maximum end-to-end bandwidth with O(N) time complexity, where N is the number of available paths. Keywords—Multihoming, Concurrent multi-path transfer, Reorder, Retransmission.

iFrag: interference-aware frame fragmentation scheme for wireless sensor networks

In wireless sensor networks, data transmission reliability is a fundamental challenge due to several physical constraints such as interference, power consumption, and environmental effects. In current wireless sensor implementations, a single bit error requires retransmitting the entire frame. This incurs extra processing overhead and power consumption, especially for large frames. Frame fragme...

Effect of Fragmentation in WLAN Systems with Interference Problems

Results from simulation model of an 802.11 WLAN system that suffers in performance due to interference problems are presented. The effect on performance due to change in fragmentation thresholds are shown in terms of traffic sent, received, and retransmission attempts with and without RTS/CTS mechanism. It is shown that for the modeled system a fragmentation threshold value of 256 to 500 octets...

Retransmission Flow Control Mechanism for Reliable Multicast using Adaptive Caching

In recent years, several network support schemes for reliable multicast were proposed. RMAC(Reliable Multicast using Adaptive Caching) provides router-assisted reliable multicast transport. It improves retransmission efficiency by caching transmitted data adaptively to network condition at RMAC routers. Bandwidth utilization is also improved by dropping unnecessary feedbacks and retransmissions...

An Improved SSCOP-Like Scheme for Avoiding Unnecessary Retransmissions and Achieving Ideal Throughput

signaling ATM, SSCOP, ideal throughput, retransmission policy SSCOP is a new data link control protocol designed for ATM networks. To achieve high throughput, SSCOP uses the selective repeat retransmission policy, enforced using the exchange of POLL and STAT control frames between the sender and the receiver. To avoid unnecessary retransmission of information frames (I-frames), SSCOP uses the "...

Performance analysis of efficient concatenated coding scheme for ARQ protocols - Communications, Speech and Vision, IEE Proceedings I

Benelli investigated the performance of two concatenated coding schemes for ARQ protocols. The two schemes differ in their strategies of retransmission. It was shown that the two schemes proposed by Benelli provide a significant improvement in throughput efficiency of ARQ protocols with respect to other similar schemes. The analysis presented by Benelli is complicated. An alternative analysis i...
